Sleep Goblin Crafts
Sleep Goblin Crafts: My name is Jessica Riggleman, and though I've been interested in art from an early age, Sleep Goblin Crafts officially began in 2006 as a way for me to sell jewelry, paintings, and a yearly ornament design. I enjoy a wide range of crafts though, so what I make and sell tends to shift over time. In 2016, an eccentric scavenger hunt challenged me to paint something tiny on a microscope slide, and the intricacy of it so intrigued me that I've been creating them since. I rekindled my love of doing larger paintings on canvas in 2017, so the last few years have been more about painting and less about jewelry or weaving.
My ornaments are limited run, detailed dioramas built inside glass balls. Initially, they were made with 3D quilled (the art of tightly spiraling thin strips of paper and combining them into designs) scenes with a background painted in reverse on the outside of the glass. I eventually began experimenting with other ways of creating scenes within the ornament, and they've gotten rather elaborate.
I enjoy custom work, and especially love painting things for children. I specialize in animals and landscapes, and draw heavy inspiration from photographs and cartoons. I work on glass, canvas, and paper, with acrylic, ink, and watercolor pencils. I like to experiment with things like transparency or glow-in-the-dark. You can find me on Etsy, or in person in and around Swarthmore.
