It may be hard to visualize at the moment, but the lot is already reconfigured, and most of the sidewalk is in place. The workers are busy forming the handicap ramp this week, to make the parking lot and Borough Hall accessible. By the way, if you have a moment, go take a look at that part of the construction—it’s really impressive.
The amphitheater will begin installation in the coming week. If you really concentrate, you just might be able to hear dim strains of the guitar picking and sweet singing still to come…
The rammed earth seat walls are scheduled to be installed in the beginning of May. There will even be a chance to come out and help, so get your tampers ready (if you don’t have a tamper yet, you can order one at Swarthmore Hardware!). The full project is scheduled to be completed by the end of May.
Some new features of the site include: a flat grassy area surrounded by plantings, a plaza with pervious pavers, extensive seat walls and benches, an amphitheater complete with a sunshade, and lots of new trees and plants. Additionally, there will be power and lighting throughout the site for both the vendors and pedestrians to utilize.
Isn’t this exciting! In one of our next posts, we will give you some advance notice of what will be happening at the market this season. Suffice it to say, for now, that you will find a terrific combination of returning and new vendors, food trucks every week, the continuation of our wonderful live music, artist booths, and kids’ activities, and more activities related to healthy living, good works, and just plain celebration.
See you all in a few weeks!
